Reminder: 10,000 New Knitters Event this Saturday!

1000newknitterslogo_flat

On Saturday, November 10th, 2018, skacel (maker of some of our favorite knitting needles), is partnering with local yarn shops around the country to create 10,000 new knitters! We love sharing knowledge about this amazing craft, and so are excited to participate.

How does it work? Special new knitting kits, created by skacel, will be districted to yarn shops and, through those shops, to customers who are willing to teach a friend to knit. These kits include a ball of Special Edition HiKOO Sueno Worsted yarn, a pair of addi knitting needles (size 8) and a pattern for beginner-friendly fingerless mitts. Best of all, these kits are FREE!

If you have a friend who would like to learn how to knit, this is a perfect time to induct them into the world of knitting. Or, if you don’t yet know how to knit, register to learn at our shop on November 10th, and receive the kit for free! Please let us know as soon as possible if you’d like a kit (either to teach a friend or to learn yourself on November 10th), as limited supplies are available.

Let’s join together to promote our favorite hobby and celebrate the creation of new fellow-knitters! Come join the celebration on November 10th and, until then, happy knitting!

Knitted Knockers

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and one wonderful way to help this important cause is by creating and donating Knitted Knockers. These soft, comfortable, knit prosthetics for breast cancer survivors are far preferable to traditional prosthetics. As the Knitted Knockers website explains:

“Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast.”

More information and patterns can be found on the Knitted Knockers website. Here at The Knitting Nest, we’re proud to lend our support by offering 50% off all pink yarns purchased through the end of October with the intention of making a donation to Knitted Knockers.

Thank you for your support, and happy knitting!
