One of our most popular yarns is the custom-dyed “Tahoe” colorway by Zen Yarn Gardens. This gorgeous yarn is unique to The Knitting Nest, and makes a fabulous gift or keepsake. We love this quick, go-to cowl pattern to show off the vibrant colors (and it knits up so quickly, there’s still time to make at least one for the holidays!). This Fisherman’s Stitch Cowl is FREE with purchase of the yarn!
The pattern also looks beautiful in this Malabrigo Rios yarn:
Happy knitting, and happy holidays!
P.S. Our shop hours are currently shortened while Lauren cares for baby Sofia, and due to winter road conditions, so please remember to check the website or call ahead for our most up-to-date schedule. Thank you!
Each year, we’re on the lookout for new and exciting yarns and patterns to feature. This spring, we’re delighted to announce the arrival of some gorgeous yarns and patterns by one of our new favorite companies, Malabrigo!
We love this unique cowl design using Rasta yarn:
There are many other wonderful patterns to choose from, and we have more yarns and projects coming from Malabrigo soon!
So you have left-over yarn, perhaps remnant skeins from two (or twenty) completely different projects? We understand! And we’ve found the perfect solution: knit them into a cowl!
This is “Jenny’s” Cowl, created with our friend and customer Jenny. By alternating rows of knits and purls in the round, she created a woven-like fabric that is as soft as it is beautiful. (Her cowl used Classic Elite’s Chalet and Fibre Company’s Terra.) Come in to receive the pattern with any purchase!
Here are some other yarn combinations we think would be lovely:
Dreaming of spring but still enjoying thick, cozy knitting projects? This lightweight, super-soft cowl in Debbie Bliss Paloma is the perfect solution! It’s a free pattern on Ravelry (the GAP-tastic Cowl by Jen Geigley). Paloma is a gorgeous chainette blend of 60% alpaca and 40% wool, and it knits up fast!
Just mention this post to save 20% off this yarn for the rest of January!
It’s not too late to join in on the Blue Sky Fibers summer knit-a-long!
How to play? Come pick out 4 colors in gorgeous organic cotton, join the Ravelry KAL group and post a picture of your completed cowl by August 31st to be entered into Blue Sky Fiber’s contest to win yarn for another beautiful project!
We love working with this yarn, especially because how often is it that you can find a good chunky yarn that seems appropriate for summer? This one is—thick, soft, but not too warm in your hands. And the colors are gorgeous! Plus the pattern, the Caledonia Cowl, is simple and quick. Perfect for a lazy summer day!
Make it your own!
We love free patterns, and recently discovered this one on Ravelry: the GAP-tastic Cowl by Jen Geigley. It knits up beautifully with Debbie Bliss Paloma, a gorgeous chainette blend of 60% alpaca and 40% wool. This yarn creates lightweight, super-soft knits, perfect for spring!
This is a great project for beginners wanting experience with knitting and purling, or for experienced knitters looking for a mindless knitting project. And it’s stunning in person! If you’d like to make one of your own, just mention this blog post through the end of April to receive 10% off any Debbie Bliss Paloma yarn.
