Drea Renee Trunk Show!

img_0127Modern knit wear for the modern knitter!

As a yarn shop owner, I come across many, many, many blogs, posts, pictures, trends, etc., each and every day… but when I stumbled across Andrea Mowry of Drea Renee Knits I was awed and inspired. Her unique style, not to mention the photography and scenery on her website, are amazing–both artistic and professional. Her knits are absolutely beautiful but also contemporary: fashion-forward, modern and something that I want to both knit and wear.

It was difficult to chose my first project… but I settled on “Goldfinch” and decided to use Zen Yarn Garden’s “Serenity Silk Single” (a merino/cashmere/silk blend, which are available in special Tahoe colors available exclusively at The Knitting Nest).

As you might imagine, I have many (many) works-in-progress, so I don’t often finish a new one right away. But this is one I couldn’t put down. The instructions were detailed, well-written and left me with no questions. It’s already completed, and I love wearing and showing off my truly one-of-a-kind work of art.

Here at The Knitting Nest, we’ll be offering a Drea Renee Knits trunk show through October 14th. All of her patterns (and the yarns you use to create them) will be 15% off through that time. So stop by and check out something new!

The Tribeca Capelet: Knitting + Fashion

We love Takhi Stacy Charles! And we’re crazy about one of their newest designs, the Tribeca Capelet. It’s the perfect transition piece from summer to fall, and a quick knit, too (only 4 balls required)! It’s knit in Phoebe–a lovely Merino-silk blend striated tape yarn.

img_0113img_0125img_0126This yarn is also perfect for fun knits like this scarf, and the Fort Tyron Hat and Wristers.

We’ve had the privilege of meeting Stacy Charles a few times–not only is he an inspired designer, but he’s a wonderful person, too. We love following his designs and always can’t wait to see what he comes up with next! Read about his inspirations–the places where fashion and fibre meet–here.

And be sure to follow the Tahki Stacy Charles blog here for the latest in design inspiration and more!

Lazy Days Shawl Kit by Artyarns

IMG_0109A lazy knit-a-long… lazy because there’s no deadline or finish date! This beautiful little wrap would make a perfect gift for the holidays… so if you start now, you’ll have time to make gifts and one for yourself, too!

This luxurious yarn is knit in a simple pattern with an unusual construction… It’s worked in Merino Cloud (80% extra fine Merino/20% Cashmere) and a complementing Beading Silk or Beaded/Sequin Mohair for a bit of sparkle. Working with this yarn is a true treat. You can find more information about the knit-a-long on Ravelry here.
